Evaluation 4: How did you use media technologies in the constructionand research, planning and evaluation stages?

I again used slideshare to answer this question.

Evaluation 3: What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

I received a lot of feedback from audience for my music video, CD digipack and magazine advert.
To get the feedback I asked people in my media group, family and friends.
But to get more feedback and variety of comments I also posted my music video, CD digipack and magazine advert on sites such as YouTube and Facebook.

I received many positive comments for my music video, magazine advert and CD digipack such as the pictures I edited looked good and went well. They also said my video was good and made sense as the song went with the video. They also said the text went well with the images and the colours were visible etc.
Many comments said the effects used for the video worked very well with the theme and the video was clear and easy to see. They also said my video had a clear story line and that the video went well with the song.
Although i mainly got feedback for my videos i still got enough to make changes.

However i got many comments telling me what i could change or alter to make my products better.
These comments helped a lot as they gave me an insight of how to make my products better and increase viewer pleasure.
These comments included things like to make the background a bit lighter on my poster and CD cover etc. Adding more effects on my video and changing certain scenes and make the effect on my magazine advert more similar to my CD cover.
Some of the audience were 50/50 about the effect of my magazine advert and CD cover as some said it consisted with the theme and looked good where as others said it was too dark and you couldn't see the person on the picture properly. To resolve this problem i couldve made the picture a bit brighter but still stick with the original theme.
I took all the feedback i got a made some changes noticing they made my products better and look good.

I feel the audience feedback helps a lot as the audience are the people who will be looking and buying these media products so their opinion matters because this is for them and if they like it then the products will sell.
As many people have different opinions and feedback its good to get a variety of comments as people can have different ideas of how to make their video more successful.

Evaluation 2: How effective is the combination of your main product anancillary text?

I felt that all 3 of my products connected and the combination between them was effective.

Main Picture

The actress in the video i felt was the main focus for all three products.

I quite liked using the actress as the main focus for the image as the song and video is about her so i felt that this brought more meaning and went with the theme of the video.
Even though the clothes she is wearing in the video is different to the digipack and magazine advert it still works as you know this magazine advert is promoting the album/single/video.

I also felt that using similar pictures for the CD digipack and poster kept with the theme and looked good as when i researched other artist i noticed they used similar artwork for their magazine advert and CD digipack.
I think that keeping the effects for all the products very similar also consisted
with the theme and looked like they matched and fitted together.
Also by keeping these the same i feel that it tells the audience that these 3 products are together and are all about the same thing.

Throughout this task i have tried to keep with a certain theme. I have tried to make this simple yet very dark, gloomy and sad as the song i have chosen is very sad and deep so i felt that going with a 'pathetic fallacy' sort of theme and keeping it dull and dark instead of bright and vibrant went better and showed a lot of emotion. So i wanted to show this in all of my products, i done this by using different effects, scenery and shots. I edited my pictures and videos in a certain way to keep with this theme and make them all look similar. I feel that they all show this theme and mood, and the digipack and magazine advert especially compliment the song and video.

However overall i felt that all three of my products worked very well and linked together, i think they all kept with the theme and had a clear link making them all work to promote the album/single. Even though my video didn't go exactly to plan(due to lack of footage and editing issues) i still believe i don't the best i could and my video came out well and i was happy how the CD digipack and magazine advert came out and that they fitted and went with my music video.

Evaluation 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop orchallenge forms and conventions of real media products?

I used slideshare to make a presentation for this question.

Magazine Advert.

Original picture i used for the poster.

For the magazine advert I decided to use a similar picture to my front cover as from what I found most artist use the same or similar pictures I also felt that this gave the same message as the front cover did and it kept with the whole theme i wanted for my digipack and video.
I used this picture as i felt it gave the same effect and meaning the cd cover did. The mood and style of the picture is the same and as you can only see a little bit of her face you can see she looks down and upset.

I again edited this picture also adding text to it.

Like my CD cover i used a similar effect for my magazine advert, i changed the exposure, saturation and contrast.
I tried to keep the same effect as the CD cover but made the magazine advert a bit softer and lighter as the poster promotes the album so it gives a taste and preview of the album etc.

For the text on the magazine advert i used the same font as i did for the CD cover, as this consisted with the theme of the digipack.
I again used the same colour for the text as it was very visible and stands out.

I used Photoshop to edit the picture and add the text.

My final version of my magazine advert.

CD Cover: Back

Original picture i used for the back cover.

For the back cover I decided to use a picture of the scenery from the video. I feel that the picture fits in well with the the theme and concept of the video and song.
I think that keeping a simple picture such as a picture of the scenery where the video is set has a lot of meaning as it shows that it's dark empty and very depressing showing no signs of happiness.

For the text on the cd cover I decided to keep it the same as the text I used for the name of the song on the front cover.
This is because it's very plain and simple, easy to read and fits well with the back ground picture.
Also looking at the back cover for the artist whose song I chose they also used a similar style of writing. It stands out but also softens it. I chose the similar sort of layout and style as the artist used for their back cover as i felt this is what looked best and went well.

I added a barcode to the bottom right corner of the back cover as from what i found this is where the barcode is usually kept.
I used Photoshop to put text and barcode on the image for my back cover.

Track list for the back of my CD cover:

  1. Shiver
  2. Red Face
  3. Middle Of The Bed
  4. Lines
  5. Night Bus
  6. Watch Over
  7. Bikes
  8. Place
  9. Dont You Worry
  10. First
  11. Be Alright
  12. All Ive Got
  13. Scar
  14. Little Brave
  15. Gamble

CD Cover: Front

The original picture I am using for the front of my CD Cover.

I chose this image because i felt that even though it is very simple and plain it has a lot of meaning and says a lot. The song is very sad so this picture shows shes upset and regretful by her body language and the fact that her face is covered and shes looking down she could be remorseful.

I am going to edit this picture and take screen shots of the construction of my front cover.

This screen shot shows that in Photoshop i have edited the picture for my front cover. I have changed the exposure and contrast of the picture to give it this dark and gloomy but also slightly bright effect. The reason for this is because i wanted the picture to look dark and mysterious as the song is sad and the theme of the video is glum and deep so i wanted the pictures to portray the same theme. I also kept the bottom of the picture quite bright and luminous as i wanted to show that the closer you get to the girl its all dull and its quite mournful round her and i also wanted it light so the text will show up.

This screen shot shows how i edited the text on my CD cover. I used the font that i tested in my font test. I put the text in the darker areas so they are more visible and stand out, i chose the light colours as they are very visible and also fit in well with the picture. Also as the picture is quite hard and dull the text brings light and a soft touch to the picture.
I used the font Lucida handwriting for the artist name and Ovator Std for the name of the song. I felt these two fonts worked well as the font for the name is very nice looking and neat but the font for the song is more bold, stand outs, is very plain and makes a statement.

Research: CD Covers and Magazine Adverts.

Covers

This is the poster promoting rihannas album unapologetic and her diamonds tour. The art for this poster is exactly the same as the artwork for her album. Most artist do this because they are promoting that album so it makes sense to use the same artwork it also tells people who may not know that the tour will feature the songs from that album.

Ancillary Task.

For my ancillary task i am producing a digipack, so the front and back of a CD cover and a promotional poster.

Editing.

For all the clips i was using in my video i changed the saturation for all of them giving a dark, gloomy effect. When i was filming i had someone shine an extra light so in some shots theres a certain glow which gives a better effect. For some of the clips i also changed the speed of them making them slower which gave a nice effect for some scenes and made the clips longer.

This screen shot shows that i was editing clips im using for my video. I shortened the length of a some clips to make them shorter and not so long time wise. I also cut out some parts of the clips that i didn't want to use.

On some of the clips i cropped the size of the frame as there were some parts of the background/scenery i didn't want in the clip, so i cropped the frame smaller to remove extraneous material.

After i edited my video making sure all the clips i wanted were in the right placed and were used. I added the song ive chosen to the video so now when the video is playing so is the music and the video and music are in sync with each other.

When adding the music i also trimmed down the length of the song as it was too long for my video. so i had to drag the two yellow lines cutting the music a bit from the begging and from the end.

Editing Film.

I have now started to edit my videos and arranged them in the order i want them to come up in.
So far it has been pretty straightforward however my videos are coming up wide so i need to try get them sorted out.

I've started to edit and put together my videos looking at which parts i want to go where, how much i wanted of each clip and which parts of the song the clips would go to.

Story.

The story for my music video and what will happen.

Beginning - Intro, first verse and chorus.

  • The intro instrumental will show the actress getting into her car looking very upset putting her head down as if shes having a bad day and is going through a hard time.
  • As the singing starts the actress is driving as the the roads are being filmed as she is driving showing that she is basically running away from whatever has happened back home.
  • She then appears in a park looking upset and depressed walking around. You then see her in different scenes sitting on different things of the park equipment for example the swings, benches, and high platforms. And judging by the way she is walking around she seems to have been here before so she could be thinking about old memories and better times.
The middle - second verse.

  • You see the actress trying to light a cigarette but not actually smoking it showing that shes going through a difficult time and this is not like her as she doesn't usually smoke.
  • She is then looking around again, looking at the scenery etc showing that even though she doesn't have a reason to be out she feels she may be re-living something but just wanted to get away so she has come to this place to deal with her emotions.
  • The next scene shows her sitting on the swings looking at the her phone looking disappointed and fed up as she may have been expecting someone to contact her even though she knows they won't which upsets her even more.
End - Last chorus and end instrumental.

  • The music towards the end gets deeper and by the sound more instruments are added.
  • You then see her walking around then  walking up to a sign which says 'NO SWIMMING' suggesting that she is ignoring the sign and is having suicidal thoughts as she feels this is the last option for her as she is very depressed.
  • She then is seen crouching down on the edge as if she is going to jump in but is having second thoughts looking down and putting her head in her hands as she is not thinking probably and is just very emotional and sad, not knowing what she is about to do.
  • You then see her standing by the lake/pond showing that even though she is very low she is just looking at the scenery clearing her head and is just thinking about the past and happier times.
  • The song then goes into the end instrumental showing the scenery of that night.

Filming.

Originally i had filmed everything for my video however the macs and imovie wouldnt except my video files and they would not work so i had to re-film over the holidays which was very time consuming and meant i had to change my story line due to time and the weather ect.

So my new story line shows a girl who is sad and depressed and lonely walking around aimlessly after having an argument with someone.
You'll see shots of her walking around, the scenery she's in, the emotion on her face and the weather/time. My choice for the time of day i filmed was good in the end as there wasn't enough time really during the day and the evening/night shows more emotion and goes better with the song i have chosen.

I filmed over a couple of days mainly in the evening so it was shot in the dark. Luckily the weather was the same over the days i was filming so it looks like the video was shot in one day.

I picked a location that was simple and near. So i chose this place with hills and park and big pond/lake. As i filmed at night only things i filmed were visible but the location is a good place to film.

The actress in my music video is dressed very casual and is wearing a light coloured jumper, leggings, a leather jacket and a beanie hat and gloves. Which went well with the theme of my video.
